“I’ve just returned from Brussels and I say this for the first time publicly. I believe that the decision on the side of the European Union has been made and I think London also knows this,” Czarnecki told Polish Radio.

Czarnecki gave an exact date for the postponed Brexit. “The negotiations will be extended for nine months. Great Britain will formally be part of the EU for three more quarters and will leave on January 1st, 2020.”

“This doesn’t confirm British politicians running for the European Parliament,” Czarnecki added. “There will be no changes to divisions of the “cake”; Poland will have one more mandate.”

On Tuesday evening the MPs of the House of Commons made two amendments to the Brexit legislation. These suggest a necessity to find an alternative solution to the negotiated controversial emergency mechanism for Northern Ireland (the backstop). It also objects to a no-deal Brexit.

In response, Theresa May announced an attempt to renegotiate the deal to leave the EU, but it was immediately rejected by President of the European Council Donald Tusk.
