The Hungarian Football Association (MLSZ) and German sportswear maker Adidas unveiled on Monday new uniforms for the Hungarian national team inspired by historical motifs and the waves of the Danube river.

The new uniform’s design elements will not be used in other lines of Adidas products, helping put the Hungarian jerseys in the same unique design category as those of the Belgian, German and Spanish teams.

“It was a unique challenge to develop a set of kits that conveys both the raw passion and the unifying power of football,” Adidas lead designer Jürgen Rank said at the press conference unveiling the new uniform. “We are satisfied with the result as we think it successfully combines the worlds of art and football.”

The new uniforms were commissioned by the MLSZ to celebrate the role of Hungary as the co-organizer of the 2020 European Football Championship. The national team will face Wales in an away game on Nov. 19 and needs a victory to secure its place in the 2020 events.

The Hungarian national football team will wear its new jerseys at the Nov. 15 inauguration of the reconstructed Ferenc Puskás stadium in a friendly match against Uruguay, just four days ahead of their decisive Euro qualifier.
