Four migrant men living in the German city of Dortmund are being tried for raping and sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl several times in July 2022 and sexually abusing her 13-year-old friend. The trial, which began Thursday last week, involves three Syrians and one man from Ghana.

Two of the four men on trial — Ahmod A., Rageb A., Mamadou B., and Khaled S. — are accused of trapping the girl inside a house and then raping and sodomizing the girl for 24 hours straight.

According to the Reckling Häuser news outlet, the Dortmund prosecutor’s office argues that she clearly told the defendants she was not interested. However, the four men stripped the girl and sexually assaulted her. The next day, two of the four men raped the girl in another apartment in the northern part of the city.

It remains unclear if the alleged rapists had any relationship with the victim prior to the attacks, and there is no information about how the minor found herself in the men’s apartments.

According to the newspaper, the Dortmund prosecutor’s office also accuses the defendants of having committed sexual acts against the 13-year-old’s girlfriend. The second victim was allegedly groped on her breasts and buttocks against her will.

Germany has seen a wide variety of cases involving migrant men raping younger minors. In fact, it is not even the first case involving migrants raping a 13-year-old girl in the city of Dortmund. In 2020, an Afghan man was accused of luring a 13-year-old girl to a playground in the city, where he subsequently raped her.

One of the most infamous cases involved 10 migrants who drugged and gang-raped an 18-year-old German girl in Freiburg; they were all sentenced to prison.

Last year, an Afghan migrant was found guilty of raping an 11-year-old, and despite his conviction, managed to avoid jail time. And that is not the only case of an 11-year-old being raped by a migrant either. In February 2020, a 22-year-old Afghan asylum seeker confessed to raping an 11-year-old girl in the Hanover region of Germany along with two other asylum seeker accomplices. The victim was a special needs student with disabilities.

Foreigners residing in Germany are responsible for a huge share of sex crimes, according to police data. They are also responsible for half of all gang rapes committed in Germany.

In other countries, the problem is also prevalent. For example, 13-year-old Leonie was raped and murdered by three Afghan migrants in Vienna last year in a case that made national headlines and fueled a drive to crack down on immigration in Austria. In Spain, foreigners account for 46 percent of all sexual-related crimes, while Italy features similar numbers.
