The leader of the Poland 2050 party, Szymon Hołownia, has topped a poll of those Poles trust most, displacing Polish President Andrzej Duda. The third most trusted politician in Poland, according to the survey by public agency CBOS, is Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz the leader of the Polish People’s Party (PSL), the party that is allied with Hołownia’s party in the Third Way electoral coalition.

The CBOS poll shows Hołownia is trusted by 52 percent, with only 27 percent distrusting him. President Duda is trusted by 51 percent and distrusted by 38 percent, whereas Kosiniak-Kamysz is trusted by 48 percent, with only 21 percent lacking trust in him.

Warsaw Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski is trusted by 45 percent and distrusted by 37 percent. Both the present Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and the incoming Prime Minister Donald Tusk have 40 percent each, with 51 percent distrusting Morawiecki, and 46 percent distrusting Tusk. The leader of the outgoing ruling conservative Law and Justice (PiS), Jarosław Kaczyński, is trusted by 33 percent and distrusted by 56 percent.

Analysts all agree that Hołownia is benefitting from a “honeymoon period” for the new parliamentary majority and because his communication skills — he was a highly rated TV showman before he became a politician — have helped him in his new high visibility role.

However, the same analysts believe that once the new government is in place, which is expected to be in mid-December, the novelty value of Hołownia will wane, and it will be Donald Tusk, the real leader of the new ruling coalition, who will be on the rise.

Meanwhile, Szymon Hołownia is milking his new-found popularity to boost his ratings before the race for president in 2025. Hołownia stood in the last presidential election and came third with 14 percent. He does not hide the fact that he wants to run in 2025 when Duda cannot stand again.
