Portugal is ready to join the training of Ukrainian pilots on F-16 fighter jets, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Thursday after talks with Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa in Kyiv.

The Ukrainian president noted that Portugal is a member of the international coalition that is helping Ukraine with tanks and air defense equipment.

“Today, Portugal confirmed its readiness to join the training of Ukrainian pilots and engineers on F-16 aircraft. We also discussed the possibilities of expanding defense cooperation, in particular the supply of armored medical vehicles and mine clearance equipment to Ukraine,” he explained.

Zelensky also underlined the importance of Portugal’s accession to the G7 declaration on security guarantees for Ukraine. He thanked Portugal for its support for Kyiv’s peace plan and for its participation, together with others, in the preparation of Ukraine’s summits with the leaders of Latin American and African countries.

He added that Kyiv looks forward to effective and regular cooperation with Lisbon and trusts that Portugal will be involved in the reconstruction process in Ukraine.

As Remix News reported, Ukraine has recently announced that it will receive up to 61 F-16s from Denmark and the Netherlands.
